Ukraine launched a unique portal on plundered cultural heritage
ESLI congratulates civil society of Ukraine that launched a unique portal on plundered cultural heritage. The portal consists of collection of articles both by Ukrainian and foreign experts on provenance research, current problems with recovery of looted art to or from Ukraine, comprehensive studies on new methodology and tools in the field of provenance, etc.
Ukraine is the only country in the world that after WWII has not recovered any of its plundered cultural heritage. At the same time Ukrainian museums and libraries were filled with looted by Soviet trophy brigades cultural objects and books.
The problem of provenance research and plundered cultural objects remains unknowledged by state authorities. This makes the effort of civil society even more remarkable and important.
